Frequently Asked Questions

Window tinting can be over complicated by companies who all want to obtain a sales edge. We don’t use high pressure sales pitches or scare tactics to sell our products. We just want to simplify it for you – So here are a few things to check:

  • Most importantly residential and commercial solar film should have a chemically activated dry adhesive. This adhesive is used by the big manufacturers ( ASWF, Johnson, 3M, Suntek, Bekeart, MEP ) in their architectural solar window tinting films. If you have a sample check this by peeling the clear backing liner off the film and touching the glue, it shouldn’t feel tacky like sticky tape. If it does feel sticky it’s the same type of glue you see bubbled up on the rear windows of cars. You wouldn’t want that on your house windows, especially in the harsh Brisbane sun. Some companies still install this type of glue as it is a much cheaper film to buy. As always there are a couple of exceptions to this rule, but this is reserved for specialty products with specific requirements.
  • You should look for a window tinting film that is manufactured in the USA. For decades this is where the best films on the market have been made and laminated. In recent years Asia and India have begun production, but these films are untested in Australian conditions and are yet to prove themself.
  • Installation is just as important as window tint quality. Use an experienced installer. Our installers have a minimum of 6 years experience in the installation of residential and commercial films. Most quality manufacturers offer a life time warranty but this only covers their product and not poor installation.
  • Make sure you are getting a metalised or ceramic window tinting. Believe it or not, there is still window tint being installed in Brisbane that is non-metalised. Non-metalised block only a fraction of the heat compared to metalised window tinting. Ceramic based films are usually very light in shade and used for applications such as night time city view or retail shop fronts.
  • Don’t get caught up with scare tactics and sales pitches. Whilst heat block is important don’t get caught up in figures of heat blocks to heavily. If you have checked the mentioned points so far you are probably dealing with a major film manufacturers product, most will block a comparative heat percentage when matched against a similar light transparency and reflective finish.
  • As a general rule. More external reflection (mirrored) = higher the heat block and darker window tinting = more heat blocked.

We look forward to hearing from you soon.

The good news is Tint Direct makes it easy for you to pick the right window tinting for your needs. Our window tinting is installed using films that we carry on board our Brisbane based vehicles. We don’t usually pre-cut our film which means you can make the right choice when we arrive to do the job. Our highly trained installers can talk you through your option and help you decide what will be the best window tinting for you.

It depends on your needs. Window tint doesn’t have to make your house dark. We have a number of films that block high heat whilst not blocking too much light. Some of our solar films are barely visible to the naked eye, where as some films completely block light for media rooms etc.

Yes, window tinting doesn’t have to be silver mirrored to give great privacy. Some of our most popular charcoal looking window tinting will give high privacy so you can go about you daily life with the added security of knowing that you aren’t being watched.

To simplify it for you. The darker the film the higher the glare reduction you will get. That is why majority of people look for a dark window tinting when tinting media rooms.

Window Tinting Film is the fastest payback of any building product you can put in a home or building to reduce your energy bills. Glass Tinting can block up to 80% of the heat entering through the windows and take a large load off your air conditioner, thus cutting down on the run time and amount of heat that has to be overcome. Significantly reducing your electricity bills and adding life of your air conditioner.

Real residential and commercial window tinting usually takes up to 40 days to completely cure to the glass depending on the weather. By comparison automotive film only takes a few days. In this time you will see what looks like bubbles form in the film. This is just the water remaining after application and will dry out over time.

There are two ways you can measure your windows for our online window tinting quote form.

  • If you only have a few window panels in need of window tinting or window frosting you can put in the individual daylight size of each panel. This is the measurement from the edge of the rubber gasket or timber surround, where it meets the glass. The measurement should be rounded up to the nearest centimetre.
  • If you have multiple windows ( our form only fits 20 windows ) you can measure the outside frame of the entire window, then fill in the number of panels ( e.g. 180cm x 180cm may have 4 pieces of glass ). This is often a quick way but be sure to fill in the “Total individual pieces of glass” section, as this may affect the quote.

Most window sizes are usually a standard size. If something looks out of the ordinary we will usually give you a call or email regarding the sizes and your individual needs.

The main difference is in the glue. Car window tinting costs about half the price to produce because the glue is cheaper (it’s sticky like sticky tape). This is the same type of glue you see bubbled up on the rear windows of cars so why would you want that on your home or office. Tint Direct only install dry adhesive window tint. This has more stable glue and is used by all the large solar film manufacturers in their Architectural film.

WARNING: Just because its WERS rated doesn’t mean its dry adhesive, make sure you check! If the glue is sticky like sticky tape then it’s the cheaper less stable glue. WERS is an energy rating not a quality rating.
